Wandsworth Council is considering asking more people of working age to pay something towards their Council Tax (CT) from April 2016.

Everyone will have to pay at least 30% of their Council Tax (unless you are a pensioner or your household has someone claiming disability benefits, a war pension, carers’ benefits or contains a child under 3).

Citizens Advice Wandsworth is concerned about the impact of the proposed changes on nearly 5,500 low income households – many of whom are vulnerable but may not be on the list of protected groups that the Council proposes. Many are already struggling financially as a result of benefit caps and freezes, with further reductions to come in 2016.

We have urged the Council not to go ahead with the changes or at least to put in place provisions to mitigate the effects of the change.
