AFA Immigration

- You are not permitted to provide any immigration advice unless you are registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA).
- You can assist a client by signposting or referring to an IAA registered organization. Citizens Advice Wandsworth is registered and able to provide very basic advice.
- You can also assist by helping a client to arrange and order their documents ahead of an appointment with an immigration adviser.
- Often, clients that we come across will be destitute and in Crisis because their immigration status prevents them from accessing public funds (benefits and housing support).
- If a client has a visa card or electronic visa , it will usually say “No Public Funds” or “No Recourse to Public Funds”. This means they cannot access financial support like Universal Credit and they cannot access housing support from the council.
- The best thing to do is signpost or refer the client to our service or another immigration advice service.
